INTRODUCTION –

introduce the art of drama to the world stage.
Theatre is the branch of performing arts concerned with acting out stories in
front of an audience using a combination of speech, gesture, mime, puppets,
music ,dance and sound. The two word theatre and drama are as old as music
and dance. During earlier times, drama was also known as “natya” or
“nautanki”. If we look back at history books, play like Shakuntala and meghdoot
by the legendary kalidas were hugely appreciated.

Area : one acre
Location : 205, Triveni kala Sangam, Tansen Marg,
Todermal road area, Mandi house, New Delhi.
Utilised as : Academy for 3 arts : dance, music and
painting.

A huge cultural complex with 4 different galleries :
• Triveni kala sangam house
• The Shridharni gallery
• Triveni gallery
• Sculpture court and art heritage
HISTORY –
Existing stone
It started in one room by Sundari K. Shridharani above a coffee work

house in Connaught Place, Delhi, with two students under noted


artist K.S. Kulkarni. Pandit Nehru took notice of her efforts and
appreciated her work and allotted the land for the institution.
BUILDING –
Composes clad reinforced concrete frame structure with several infill
materials.

COMPONENTS :

ENTRANCES –
The boundary is a fenced railing to make the complex visually
permeable and approachable to the visitors. It inpunctured through 3
gates –
• The central main gate which is most frequently used by visitors.

AUDITORIUM :
Auditorium block is a 4 storied structure with the double –
height auditorium on the ground floor, a studio, green rooms
and a store in the basement ,art classrooms. On the 2nd floor and
apartments for artists on the 3rd floor. The entrance to the
auditorium is through a sculpture court. A staircase on the right
leads to the upper floors and basement. Windows of the
classrooms, dance rooms, and music rooms on the north façade
to provide for north light into these rooms.
The basement housing green rooms and stores is approachable
from another dark corridor which needs artificial light.
