CATIA (Computer Aided Three-dimensional

Interactive Application) is developed by the French


company Dassault .Written in the C++ programming
language

CATIA started as an in-house development in 1977 by


French aircraft manufacturer Avions Marcel Dassault
(Dassault Aviation) to develop Dassault's Mirage fighter
jet.
The First Application of the CAD Software was known as CATI
(Conception Assistee Tridimensionnelle Interactive – French for
Interactive Aided Three-dimensional Design )
Catia Version 1 was launched in alliance with IBM in November
1981

In 1988, CATIA V3 was ported from mainframe
computers to UNIX Based operating systems.
In 1991, Catia Version 3 had first of its kind “Digital Mockup”
was introduced
In 1995 Catia Version 4 also Known as Catia Cadam which was
addressing all markets (Auto, Aero, F&A, Consumers goods,
Shipbuilding, Plant design)
It was ported to IBM AIX, Silicon Graphics IRIX, Sun Microsystems
SunOS, and Hewlett-Packard HP-UX
In 1998, Catia Version 5 was released and was an
entirely rewritten version of CATIA with support for
UNIX, Windows NT and Windows XP and an
architecture to support PLM
In 2008, Catia Version 6 was launched which was integrated with
PDM (Enovia). Which is server based data propagation and more
secure with instant collaboration across the global, with PLM 2.0
goes further with exchanging of messages and snap shots via
web.
In 2014, Catia 3D Experience Platform was launched with Cloud
storage with redefined User Interface and Industry specific modules
based on which the customer works
