•Digimap offers two of
these layers:

Unzipping standard Digimap zip files

Use the standard Windows unzip facility:

Unzip standard Digimap zip files
Unzip MasterMap zip files

• Data is delivered in GZip file - GML data within

the Gzip
• Can extract the GML file from the Gzip file…not
always necessary to do this
Data in Digimap - what formats?

GML

TIFF, SHP,
NTF, GML,
MIF/MID,
DXF, CSV,
ASC

SHP, NTF,
CSV,
MIF/MID
Data in Digimap – what formats?

• Some
products are
available in
more than
one format,
e.g. Strategi
is available in
NTF, DXF,
SHP and
MID/MIF
What formats are compatible with ArcGIS?

• Raster data products are available in TIFF format

• Compatible with ArcGIS
What formats are compatible with ArcGIS?

• TIFF World files - contain the location, scale, and rotation

of a map that is stored as a TIFF image.
• Remember to keep the supplied TIFF files and the TFW
files in the same folder! Otherwise your GIS software
cannot locate the TIFF geographically.
What formats are compatible with ArcGIS?

• Shape files do not require any conversion prior to

use in ArcGIS.
• Remember to keep all constituent parts together
- SHP, DBF, SHX:
What formats are incompatible with ArcGIS?

– NTF:
• OS Land-Form Profile – convert to ESRI Geodatabase
• OS Land-Form Panorama – convert to ESRI Geodatabase

• OS Meridian 2 – SHP files available

• OS Strategi – SHP files available

• OS Code-Point – CSV files available

• OS Boundary Line – SHP files available

– GML: OS MasterMap, OS VectorMap Local

NTF data

• Convert to ESRI Personal Geodatabase format (.MDB

suffix), using Productivity Suite or Map Manager (ESRI
tools).

Converted Original
file for use file from
in ArcGIS Digimap
Productivity Suite, NTF Convertor

• Available through Eduserv CHEST:

– ESRI Productivity Suite (ArcGIS V9.2 or later)
– Map Manager (ArcGIS V9.1 or earlier)
GML data

2 data products are in GML format:

1. OS MasterMap data
2. OS VectorMap Local data

It is possible to import GML/GZ files to ArcMap 10.

However, in our experience it is trickier to isolate
features, analyse the data, change the style when
using this method. We recommend that you convert
the data if possible.
OS MasterMap conversion

Possibilities:

1. Convert to ESRI
Geodatabase format
using Productivity Suite
(ArcGIS V9.2 or later)
or Map Manager
(ArcGIS V9.1 or earlier)

2. Convert to Shapefile
format using InterpOse
Productivity Suite, OS MasterMap Data Convertor
