of the beach. The waterline is

pond. There are Kiawe trees, and
there are some areas where there is
“sandstone”
Environmental
Setting
Climate- Normally hot and
sunny, will get onshore wind.

Tide- In September, the

highest tide was 2.7ft and
lowest was 0.1ft.

Sea Level Rise- 3.2ft by 2100

Waves 80% of the time are

not dangerous
Overview of
Affected
Environment
Marine- Lots of people fish here, so
there are species in the water.

Water Quality- Depending on the day,

the water can be clear or potentially
brown from rain runoff.

Air Quality- Windy most of the time.

'Ae'ae- used for erosion control, not
endangered, can grow directly in water.
Physical Plan Cost- $3.50/6” round pot
and Financial Calculations- $210/360”
Breakdown

Our plan is to add

more natural shrubs
and vines to decrease
the amount of sand
bags used because it
isn’t practical.
ʻAkiʻaki- withstands wind, sand and rain. Not
Other Plants endangered and lives longer than 5 years.
Cost- $1.00/plug tray
Calculations-
These are other
plants that are useful
for erosion
prevention. Pohuehue- vines spread between 7-15ft.
Long lived and good for beachfront
properties.
Cost- $5.00/6”
Calculations- $300/360”
Groins are man made, designed to trap
Alternatives sand moving down the beach

Considered

- Groins
- Seawall
- Sandbags
- The beach will look nicer because it
Potential won’t be cluttered with sand bags.
Impacts

- More species will inhabit

the area due to the
added foliage (bugs,
birds, etc)
- Kealia pond will not
overflow as much from
sea surge.
- South Kihei road will be at risk and the
Potential only way to Kihei will be Mokulele
Impacts of No -
Highway
Kealia pond and all the endangered birds
Action will be at risk, and won’t have anywhere
to go.
- Condos will need to start
putting more permanent
solution things (sea wall).
