ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITIONS
• Whenever a client desires to contruct a building, he expects his architect to
supply him with alternatives from two or three architects before comissioning a
particular architect for a job or in a big firm the principal conducts a mini
competition for the project assigned, from amongst the architects employed by
him.
• The aim is to bring out wide range of ideas and most favourable solution to set
of problem.
Since the competitions are research oriented, they offer valuable oppurtunities
for architects to gain experience which will be of use in practice.
Even if the architect is not successful in competition, his taking part in it forms an
added qualification for the jobs of practically similar nature and infuses
confidence in him at the time of prliminary discussions with the client who has
yet to decide to whom the work has to be allotted.
PURPOSE AND ADVANTAGES OF
COMPETITIONS
Firm in which atleast one partner/ director but not an employee is and shall be
registered with council of architecture under architects act 1972.
Neither the promoter of the competition , official engaged for the competition
nor any of their associates, partner or employee shall compete, assists a
competitor or act as an architect or joint architect for the competition project.
COMPETITION
The conditions of competitions shall be finalized within framework of
guidelines prescribed by Council of Architecture before any
announcement is made by promoter of competition. The conditions shall
clearly give:
• Type of competition
• Purpose of competition and intentions of promoter.
• Nature of problem to be solved.
• All practical and mandatory requirements to be met by competitors.
• Number, nature, scale and dimensions of documents plans and/or
models.
• Estimates if required in standard form issued with conditions.
• Nature of prizes, Honoraria.
• Name of assessors
• Necessary information required for conducting competitions.
• The competition shall be conducted in english.
BOARD OF ASSESSORS
The board of assessors shall at all times includes architects who are
registered with The Council Of Architecture.
PRIZES , HONORARIA
No competition shall be conducted without adequate premium/ honoraria
and the competition conditions and the media announcements must state
the amounts and number of prizes for competition. The promoter
undertakes to accept the decisions and awards of board of Assessors and
within 3 months of the date there of to pay theprize.
