NATIONAL AVIATION MUSEUM

SHUBHAM GAUTAM FOURTH YEAR B.ARCH

SYNOPSIS
NATIONAL AVIATION MUSEUM

INTRODUCTION

Aviation museum is a dedicated facility to preserve and interpret the history of

aviation and its impact on our world, particularly on the development of passenger
travel and wartime aviation.
These museums provide adequate infrastructure for easy interpretation by means
of audio and visual aids and also help in promoting aviation as a profession to the
youth.
Aviation museums bring positive economic impacts including job growth and
stimulation of the tourism economies of a number of cities and towns. They offer
much needed educational programming to local schools, and contribute to the
cultural growth of the cities in which they are found.
Aviation in India is broadly divided into military and civil aviation which is one of the
fastest growing aviation markets in the world, with this rate of growth and evolution
the aviation sector witnesses a vast range of new technological developments
everyday .
At present there are only four functional aviation museums present in India and as
the aviation sector grows the present infrastructure is unable to provide proper
information regarding it, hence the need for providing facilities which preserve and
provide information about Indian aviation is observed. A proposal for the new
aerospace museum has been created by the ministry of defense and final financial
sanction on the detailed project is awaited.
The tourism industry in India is flourishing as over 10 million foreign tourists arrived
in India each year through the main gateways of Delhi and Mumbai, hence proper
infrastructure can promote tourism and overall GDP of the city.

AIM-

The aim of the project is to design adequate infrastructure to preserve the Indian
aerospace heritage and to create awareness about India’s rich aviation industry.

OBJECTIVE-

• To provide adequate facilities for interactive indoor and outdoor displays to

overcome current space shortage.
• To preserve and maintain the vintage inventory of the air force by designing
required spaces.
• To create display areas providing information about IAF’s rich heritage .
• To create plane spotting and observation areas near the active runway for live
interactions with current developments.
• To create simulation zones for children to gain knowledge through interactive
secessions .
NEED-

The current national museum situated in New Delhi was established in 1967 and hence has
an insufficient infrastructure and display areas .As the aviation sector grows the present
infrastructure is unable to provide proper information regarding it, hence the need for
providing facilities which preserve and provide information about Indian aviation is
observed.
The new proposal will help in providing adequate infrastructure and will make the institution
more attractive to the younger generations. As India is the fastest growing aviation market
and has the fourth largest air force in the world ,the development can also help in promoting
the aviation related professions in general.

SCOPE-
The museum will cater for display space for 30 aircrafts and space for artifacts related to
aviation history
Audio-visual facility to provide information through interactive means.
The museum will also provide preservation and restoration facilities.
Average projected footfall of each day of the proposal is 2000-4000.
