INTRODUCTION
• This paper describes an indigenously developed hands-free wheel chair for
physically disabled persons.
• The proposed device works based on the Head Gesture Recognition technique
using Acceleration sensor.
• Conventional electric powered wheel chairs are usually controlled by joysticks or
hand gesture.
• Acceleration sensor is used for the head gesture recognition and RF (radio
frequency) module is used for the smart wireless controlling.
HEAD GESTURE CONTROL
Consist of two units transmitor and receiver units.

Transmitor
• Consist of accelerometer sensor module(ADXL345),ATMEGA 8,RF TRANSMITOR
CONSTRUCTION AND WORKING
The wheel chair system consist of following equipments.
* Head gesture control system
* Heart beat monitoring system
* GPS tracking
* Emergency alert using GSM
• The ADXL345 is a small, thin, low power, 3-axis accelerometer .
• Accelerometer Response and Wheel Chair movement

• The RF module, as the name suggests, operates at Radio Frequency.

• The corresponding frequency range varies between 30 kHz & 300 GHz.

• In this RF system, the digital data is represented as variations in the amplitude of carrier wave.

• Microcontroller ATMEG A8 is used for the transmitor purpose.

• The high-performance, low-power Atmeg 8-bit microcontroller combines 8KB ISP flash memory
with read-while-write capabilities.
RECEIVER
• Receiver unit consist of RF receiver,ATMEG8 microcontroller ,motor driver IC
and motors.
• The microcontroller on receiving the signal directs the motors through the control
circuit.
• The change of direction is achieved by changing the direction of current flow
through the motor and speed control is achieved by varying the current through
the motor.
• The Motor driver IC L293D drives the motors connected in the wheels by control
action given by microcontroller unit.
• DC geared motors are used for controlling the two wheels of the chair
independently.
HEART BEAT MONITORING
• This system needs
*Arduino UNO
*Heart rate sensor

• With the arduino we are providing a gps/gsm module for the internet access.

• The gprs system will help to send data directly to the server.

• Arduino module has a powerful on-chip processing and storage capacity, built-in 32-bit processor.

• The heart rate sensor is a thumb-sized heart rate monitor designed for Arduino microcontrollers.
• This heart rate monitor sensor is a pulse sensor which is developed based on PPG techniques.
• This is a simple and low-cost optical technique that can be used to detect blood volume changing
in the microvascular bed of tissues.
• It is relatively easy to detect the pulsatile component of the cardiac cycle according to this theory.
• The sensor has two holes that you can use to attach to your belt. You can wrap on your finger,
wrist, earlobe or other areas where it has contact with your skin.
• To connect these components with the Arduino, we need the expansion shield which can connect
them with the microcontroller with ease.
• ThingSpeak provides very good tool for IoT based projects.
• By using ThingSpeak site, we can monitor our data and control our system over the Internet, using
the Channels and webpages provided by ThingSpeak.
• ThingSpeak ‘Collects’ the data from the sensors, ‘Analyze and Visualize’ the data and ‘Acts’ by
triggering a reaction.
GPS TRACKING SYSTEM & EMERGENCY ALERT
For this sytem we need
* GPS module
* GSM module
* Adruino
• GPS stands for global positioning system and used to detect the Latitude and Longitude of
any location on the Earth, with exact UTC time (Universal Time Coordinated).
• GPS module is the main component in our vehicle tracking system project. This device
receives the coordinates from the satellite for each and every second, with time and date.
• we will send the location coordinates to the Local Server and you just need to open a
‘webpage’ on your computer or mobile, where you will find a Link to Google Maps with
your Vehicles Location Coordinates.
• When you click on that link, it takes you on Google Maps, showing your vehicles
location.
• Gsm module is used for the emergency alert and for gprs acces for the gps.
• We set one or more number for sending emergency alert.
• Compare the reference heart beat with the measured value. If there is any
mismatch occur emergency message sends.
CONCLUSION
• Helps the disabled persons to travel safely to nearest places.
• All the parts and required electronic components including sensors, trans-receiver,
microcontroller etc. Are collected from the local market at considerable low price.
• Wireless connection between the transmitter, fitted on the head (cap) and the
receiver makes its use very simple and comfortable.
• Commercial production of the presented wheel chair could be a good replacement
of imported one and could be a great help to the disabled patients in our country.
• Less cost compared to other machines
• Provides easy control and 24-hr monitoring
