ABSTRACT
• The general Drilling machines causes many problems
during drilling like: hole deviation, pipe failures,
formation damage & some parts cannot be drilled due to
small work space between drill bit and work piece. So
we use hand drills in this cases but it cause alignment
problems. So I propose “360⁰ FLEXIBLE DRILLING
MACHINE”. Flexible drilling machine can be mounted
on a table or wall. An electrical power source is used
for this machine. The flexible drilling machine is used for
drilling holes in various locations at different positions
with high accuracy due to flexibility of the machine parts
So this make it possible for easy drilling in even
complicated parts and surfaces.

INTRODUCTION

PRINCIPLE OF DRILLING:
Drilling is a cutting process that uses a Drill bit to cut a hole of
circular cross-section in solid materials. The drill bit is usually a
rotary cutting tool, often multi-point. The bit is pressed against the
work-piece and rotated at rates from hundreds to thousands of
revolutions per minute.
360⁰ FLEXIBLE DRILLING MACHINE :

It uses the same principle of drilling used in every drilling machine,

but it is very simple in construction and in operating comparatively
with others machines. It is a flexible type machine which is free to
rotate in any desired direction with 6 DOF. It can be easily mounted
on a table or wall as it is light in weight and flexible.

WORKING

The working operation of this 360° flexible drilling

machine is initially started from the universal motor
through A.C Power source. In this, there is one power
source, received from the power supply. After that the
indexing mechanism is controlled , to fix the desired
angle. A lock nut is attached to the indexing plate to
avoid and deviation of angle during drilling. This rotary
motion from the motor is given to the shaft and used to
rotate the Drill head. According to the requirement, the
drill is operated manually The depth of cut will be
adjusted by the screw in the drill head structure. The
speed of motor is controlled using Regulator. After that
motor is started the desire angle and desire speed is
fixed then drilling process is performed.

CONCLUSION

The size of machine is smaller than the older machine so it is very

simple to move from one place to another. So this machine can be
easily transported. The overall space required is also minimum.
With the help of this machine we can drill holes in any direction at
any particular time. This machine reduces the manufacturing cycle
time, the re-clamping can be eliminated: once the workpiece is
clamped, there is no need for re-clamping in a different direction,
reduces the number of machines needed, elimination of human
error. The machine is very simple to operate.
