THE PROBLEM AND ITS

BACKGROUND
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Teenage pregnancy generally refers to pregnancy in women who may not be legally adults, and
this varies according to the law of the land. Teenage mothers are physically, mentally, and emotionally not
ready on parenthood.Young people are far more ‘sexual’ and sexually active than ever before and a perception
has been cultivated that if something isn’t done the age of young people having sex will continue to get lower.
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
Most teenagers spend a lot of time looking in the mirror or examining body parts in detail, and it
does not end there, but also become more interested in that of others. They become more fascinated with basic
facts about human reproduction. Gradually they become more interested in sexual experimentation with
others. Part of this is motivated by curiosity; part by a desire for sexual stimulation and release, part b a need
for love, affection, intimacy and acceptance from other person.
THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
Erik Erikson’s theory of development gives an understanding of normative
development psychological developmental processes that take place during adolescence.
He sees adolescence as a critical transitional stage from childhood to adulthood and he
purports that an adolescent has a task to develop individual identity.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. What are the impacts of teenage pregnancy to the students of Lobo Senior High
School?
2. What are the contributing factors to the increasing number of teenage pregnancy in
Lobo Senior High School?
3. What are the measure or action plan that should be taken to minimized the early
pregnancy in Lobo Senior High School?

HYPOTHESIS:
The following hypothesis were formulated to guide the study:
1. There is no significant difference between the assessment of teenage pregnancy to
the HUMSS students of Lobo Senior High School.
2. There is significant difference between the assessment of teenage pregnancy to
the HUMSS students of Lobo Senior High School.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study will conduct to find out the extent of how extreme is the impact of teenage pregnancy to
the students. The result of this study is beneficial to students, parents, teachers, to the community,
school administrator, researchers and other interested individuals because this can serve as
empirical data where suggestion of minimizing teenage pregnancy in the community can be taken.
SCOPE AND LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY
This research will be conducted in Lobo Senior High School. The study is
delimited to the HUMSS students of Lobo Senior High School SY: 2017 - 2018. The
study focused on the extent of impact of teenage pregnancy to the educational
development of HUMSS students in Lobo Senior High School. The perception of the
teenagers to the impact of teenage pregnancy were limited to educational
development only.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
Adolescence - is a transitional stage of physical and physiological development that generally
occurs during the period from puberty to legal adulthood.
Birth cohort - A group of people born during a particular period or year.
Childbearing - of or relating to the process of conceiving, being pregnant with, and giving birth to
children
Contraceptives - also known birth control, hormonal contraceptives for men have been and one
being clinically
Dependency - the quality of being dependent, an area that is controlled by a country but that is not
formally a part of it.

. REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

FOREIGN LITERATURE
Research by Cynthia Bowers (2010) conducted the main cause can be that no one is paying attention to girls who are
living in poverty, whose birth rate has never declined since the past decade but increased over 60%, and the fact that schools
are lack of sex education.
According to Albano, (September 2010) as a whole is grim for pregnant teenage girls who are in school and their
babies. Forced with few options with no where to turn to, many girls find various ways to get rid of the fetus.
According to Cessane, (January,2010) initially, much of the research on the causes of adolescent sexual activity
focused in the individual level the influences of the teens’ own physical and physiological characteristic.
According to UNFPA (2011) global statistics about 1.6 million girls aged 15-19 give birth each year.
Complications from pregnancy and childbirth can cause grave disabilities, and are the leading cause of death
for young women, UN Secretary - General Ban Ki - Moon said in a statement released for World Population
Day. Adolescent girls also face high levels of illness, injury and death due to unsafe abortion, Ban added. Apart
from the immediate physical risks, early pregnancy also jeopardizes the rights, health, education and potential
of many adolescent girls, robbing them of a better future.
LOCAL LITERATURE
According to Dr. Alvarez (2010), “Our society has created a cultural that makes
having sex okay and creating environment where promiscuity is accepted. Many have
believed that today’s social media and the internet is highly have believed that today’s
social media and the internet is highly exposed to everyone and can be the one reasons
on the rise of teen pregnancy such as Alvarez has concluded.
.According to Plenee Grace J. Castillo, the government and concerned sectors
where particularly alarmed with the latest statistics on teenage childbearing in the
country indicating a surge of more than 50%, from 6.3% in 2002 to 13.6% in 2013. Teen
pregnancy and childbearing are generally regarded as being associated with various
adverse social and economic life situations among young women that persist even until
their adult life.
According to K.Torres (September,2012) teenage pregnancy is occurring in an
adolescent girl between the ages of 13 to 19. Socioeconomic is one factor in which is the
social economic experiences that help mold one’s personality , attitudes and lifestyle. It
can also define religions and neighborhoods. Socioeconomic factors also include the
ethnicity, and sense of community
According to Advocates for Youth (2009) comprehensive sex education programs
helped youth delay one set of sexual activity reduce the frequency of sexual activity,
reduce number of sexual partners and increase condom and contraceptive use.
According to the National Youth Study (NYAS) of 2010 by the National Youth
Commission (NYC), the young are already exploring romantic relationships at an early
age; almost 75% of 15- to 17-year-olds are already looking for romantic partners.
SYNTHESIS
According to the some researcher of Advocates of Youth providing sex education
would lessen the sexual productivity of students and stop engaging on sexual
activity to prevent teenage pregnancy. Even though the researcher saw the
effectiveness of sex education program, may also disagree with these program and
predicting that it wasn't be effective as they thought, however some schools
distribute condoms to their students to reduce teenage pregnancy but may disagree
with this activity because they see that by pursuing this activity they encouraging the
students to engage on sex.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
RESEARCH DESIGN
Polit and Hungler (2009:155) describe the research design as a blueprint, or
outline, for conducting the study in such a way that maximum control will be
exercised over factors that could interfere with the validity of the research results.
The research design is the researcher’s overall plan for obtaining answers to the
research questions guiding the study. Burns and Grove (2000:223) state that
designing a study helps researchers to plan and implement the study in a way that
will help them obtain the intended results, thus increasing the chances of
obtaining information that could be associated with the real situation.
SETTING AND RESPONDENTS
The research setting refers to the place where the data are collected. In this study,
study entitled “Assessment on the Impact of Teenage Pregnancy to the HUMSS
students of Lobo Senior High School” data were collected at the said school. The
respondents for this study comprised some selected HUMSS students of Lobo Senior
RESEARCH INSTRUMENTS
Research instruments refer to devices used to collect data such as questionnaires,
tests, structured interview schedules and checklists. In this study the instrument
used was interview. The researchers designed some questions with the connection
of the research matter. We uses interview because it is much compatible for the said
research study.
DATA GATHERING TECHNIQUE AND PROCEDURE
The researcher wrote a formal letter to the Focal Person of Lobo Senior High School
to request permission for the conduct of the study which required the participation of
the HUMSS students as the respondents of the research.
After the approval, the researcher directed the study by administering interview to
the HUMSS students of the said school. The researcher prepared questions
designed in accordance with students approach and research centered approach.
STATISTICAL TREAMENT OF DATA
In any educational research the preference and suitable technique for the treatment
of data are substantial.
After collecting the data, the researcher tally, tabulate and analyze the data. The
following statistical techniques were used.
Mean. The mean is the average of the numbers, calculated "central" value of a set of
numbers. To calculate: Just add up all the numbers, then divide by how many
numbers there are. It is used to average the scores of the respondents on interview
administered.
Mode. Is found by collecting and organizing the data in order to count the frequency
of each result. The result with the highest occurrences is the mode of the set. It is
used to indicate which number from the data gathered were most frequently used.
