MARIA SAWER RAHMAT CAVE

Maria Sawer Rahmat Cave located in a village in the district Cigugur, Kuningan
regency, West Java village named Cisantana. Cisantana located in the east slope of the foothills of
Mount Ciremai at an altitude of approximately 700 meters above sea level. The area is an agricultural
area with temperatures cold enough. According to church records in Cisantana, Catholics in this area
amounted to approximately 1,200 people who live mainly from agriculture and dairy farming. Maria
cave reputedly built on the initiative of local residents, is located on a hill called Bukit Totombok, west
village Cisantana. Maria Sawer Rahmat Cave now seemed to have become a sacred place and often
become a religious procession. The inauguration of the Marian Sawer Grace was conducted on July
21, 1990 by Cardinal Tomko.
To reach the hill where there are the cave , in fact not too far to walk from the village below.
Catholics call the journey to the cave as a "procession of the cross," and therefore the travel
time it feels quite long. They have to stop at every place of worship along the way, to say a
prayer before getting into the Marian. Prayer while traveling was done to remind Catholics (or
Christians in general) about the journey of Jesus Christ carrying the cross to the hill of
Golgotha ​or Calvary. Around the Marian Sawer Rahmat there is a beautiful park that was
established to describe the Garden of Gethsemane according to Christian scripture, Jesus
Christ is where arrested for trial before the crucifixion.
The park is located on a flat spot. In this place there is also a simple room for the opening
Mass or cross street. All the open, except the altar. The path to the cave, there is no place to
take shelter, but the thick trees and bushes on the left and right of the road, enough to make
the atmosphere calm. In the rainy season, visitors can see and enjoy the beautiful flowers
blooming forest, natural and exciting atmosphere. Cross roads here are 16 stops . Each stop
tells the story of Jesus , starting from when he was sentenced until he is buried . At each stop
was also built altars used people to pray and light candles . In the twelfth stop , there is a large
cross .
It is located in Bukit Totombok which is a symbol of when Jesus died on the cross . This
cross is also a sign stuck and rooted in the Catholic faith tatar Sunda . After going through
14 stops , it was the people at the Maria Sawer Rahmat Cave. Virgin Mary statue standing
upright and graceful in a cave beneath the water flows clear . The water comes from a
waterfall ( the waterfall ) . The waterfall is located at the south foot of the hill and people
knew him by Sawer waterfall ( the water fall like that " diffused " ) . That 's why the cave is
called Gua Maria Sawer Grace . On the way home , down the stairs Catholics separated
from the drive up . That meant that people who had finished praying does not interfere with
the new pilgrimage pilgrims come .
Every Friday Night Pond , or Good Friday , in the Cave of Mary Holy Mass was held event .
On Good Friday ceremonies , the procession began with the opening ceremony at the
Garden of Gethsemane . The event was then followed by " the passion " through a
procession of the cross street . Then , honor the cross in a large cross on the hill , sow
flowers at the tomb of Jesus and communion ceremony at Cave Maria . This event is usually
open to the public . At a location in the parking lot there is a simple funeral , as funerals in
other villages . What is interesting is the form of a variety of tombstones in the tombs . In the
cemetery there is a cross-shaped headstones , grave as characteristic of Christians , and
oval -shaped flat tombstone , headstone on the grave as characteristic of Muslims . This
cemetery is a mixture of Catholics and Muslims . Because it is located in Bukit Totombok ,
locals better acquainted with the Marian Sawer Grace Mary Cave Totombok . According to
folklore , the hill was named Totombok because the area was almost never bring good luck if
used as paddy fields. In other words , Totombok is always menombok hill . However , from
this hill one can see just off the town and surrounding Brass .
