classical art music tradition.
 the term "art song" is used to refer to the collective
genre of such songs (e.g., the "art song repertoire").

independent poem or text, "intended for the concert
repertory" "as part of a recital or other relatively
formal social occasion".
 While many pieces of vocal music are easily

 Is concerned with the art of presentation.
 The word theater was derived form the Greek work
“THEATRON” meaning a place for seeing.
 This includes the art of presentation that show
enactment of mimetic activity.
 It comprises dreams, circus, dance, comedy, opera,
and puppetry.

 The theater has three elements which must be bought
together:
 Audience – Theater is occurring when an audience is
present
 Place – The theater has two distinct areas –the presentation
area or stage for performers and the seeing area for the
audience.
 Performers – This is the individual who present himself on
the stage as an actress, actor, archer, dancer, acrobat, etc.
The performers uses his body, voice, and his sensitivity as
the media as he communicates with his audience.
 Drama

 Refers to the literary basis of the theatrical
presentation, the assumption what the written record
contains the essential elements of the human
experience enacted in the theater.
 The term "drama" comes from a Greek word
meaning "action", which is derived from "I do."
 The two masks associated with drama represent the
traditional generic division between comedy and
tragedy.

 is an art form in which singers and musicians
perform a dramatic work combining text (libretto)
and musical score, usually in a theatrical setting.
 In traditional opera, singers do two types of singing:
recitative, a speech-inflected style and arias, a more
melodic style, in which notes are sung in a sustained
fashion

 Opera incorporates many of the elements of spoken
theatre, such as acting, scenery, and costumes and
sometimes includes dance.
 The performance is typically given in an opera
house, accompanied by an orchestra or smaller
musical ensemble, which since the early 19th century
has been led by a conductor.

most spectacular theater arts.
 The first Italian opera was Dafine by Ottavio Rinuccini with
the music composed by Jacopo Periand Euridice.

using 36 musical instruments and varid characters.
 Most opera are often with a purely orchestral condition that
is called an overture or melodic orchestral introduction to
arts.
 Much baroque was composed for ceremonial activity at the
court.

characters
 Comic Opera light in mood and portrayed everyday
events and characters. It was smaller, with simple and
