Story Moonlight
Guy de Maupassant

Madame Julie Roubere waiting to the arrival of her elder sister

named Madame Henrriete Letore who was came from trip from
Switzerland.
Madame Letore allowed her husband to go to his estate and she had
come to spend a few days to her sister. When she arrived at Julie’s
house without any formal greeting they clasped each other in an
affectionate embrace. They are talking about their health, families
and other things.
Madame Julie gazed at her in amazement, while there are tears to her
eyes. Madame Julie asked:

12
What is the matter with you?
Madame Letore smile, a smile with heartache.
Madame Letore was just refusing. And there are tears in her
eyes. Suddenly she proclaim that she have another lover. She
told to her sister all happenings during their trip.
When we descending in the mountain we saw a lot of
beautiful sights. When I ask for a kiss I just ignore by him that
made my heart frozen.
One night, after dinner Robert has a headache he went to bed
immediately. So, I take a walk alone.
The full moon showed itself in the middle of the sky but not
just a moon; I saw a lot of beautiful views with fresh air that
touches to my body.

13
I sat down to the grass with the strange feelings. What! would it never be
my fate to wander, arm in arm, with a man I loved, along a moon-kissed
bank like this? Was I never to feel on my lips those kisses so deep,
delicious, and intoxicating which lovers exchange on nights that seem to
have been made by God for tenderness? Was I never to know ardent,
feverish love in the moonlit shadows of a summer's night?
After of my murmurings I heard stirring behind me. When I look at back I
recognize by the man and said:
“You are weeping, Madame?”
I really confuse of the situation, I really do not know what answer to give.
The man walk beside me and we converse about what we have seen during
travelling.
I did not saw the man again after the departure of him. But, I have given a
card.
Madame Roubere said to her:
"You see, sister, very often it is not a man that we love, but love it self. And
your real lover that night was the moonlight.
