THE MEANING OF ISLAM :

Silm and Salam which means peace.

Submission to God.

A Muslim is supposed to live in peace and harmony with its


environment.
Muslims - The followers of Islam

Muslims – the followers of Islam.

Muslims are not to be confused with Arabs.

An Arab could be a Muslim, a Christian or an atheist.

Arab - any person who adopts the Arabic language.

Quran (the Holy Book of Islam) is written in Arabic.


Allah

Allah is the name of the God.

Allah is the Creator of all human beings.

Muslims worship Allah.


Prophet Muhammad (saw)

Muhammad is the messenger of god.

He was born in 570, common era, in Makkah, Arabia.

Muhammad is the very last Prophet of God to mankind.

There were 124 prophets in total including Muhammad (saw).

Same believes but different ways

The Sources of Islam :

Qur'an

Hadith

Sunnah are the Prophet's sayings and deeds.


Islamic Principles :

Oneness of God

Islam rejects the idea of multiplicity of Gods

Oneness of mankind.

People are created equal in front of the Law of God.

There is no superiority for one race over another.

No one can claim that he is better than others.

In Islam there are five pillars, namely:

Shahada – Creed

Salat –Prayers

Saum –Fasting

Zakat – Purifying tax.

Worship In Religion Islam

Worship in religion Islam is woven into the day by day life of a


Muslim and isn’t bound to a blessed place. The major parts of
worship in Islam are incorporated inside five pillars, which
empower Muslims to develop their link with ALLAH Almighty.
These following five pillars of religion Islam are obligatory to
perform by all Muslims.
Declaration of Faith (Shahadah)

The first of the five essential pillars of Islam is proclaiming


intentionally and deliberately that, “There is nothing worthy
of worship except ALLAH Almighty, and Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) is the Messenger of ALLAH Almighty.”

This announcement is the premise of faith (imaan) in Islam,


affirming that not any par
Prayer (Salah):

Muslims are required to perform five times salah each day to


keep up the strong link with ALLAH Almighty and help
themselves to remember their definitive reason throughout
everyday worldly life. Through earnestness, atonement, and
direct praying to ALLAH Almighty, Muslims endeavor to set
up an individual profound link with ALLAH Almighty all for
the duration of the day. Salah incorporates physical
movements of prostrating and bowing.
Zakah:

This is a yearly charity given by all able Muslims to poor


people. Muslims must give 2.5% of their yearly reserve funds
to help poor people, the penniless, and the mistreated people.
Zakah is one of the indispensable wellsprings of social welfare
in religion Islam, empowering an equitable society where
everybody’s essential requirements and needs are
accommodated.
Fasting in the month of Holy
Ramadan (Sawm):
Muslims observe sawm in the whole month of Holy Ramadan,
the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, Muslims fasts
by avoiding eating, drinking, and other things which can break
their fast from fajr to maghrib. Salah is the obligatory fasting
which teaches Muslims about self-control and helps in
restraining from all the prohibited things and acts defined by
Islam. It empowers one to intentionally control unfortunate
propensities, for example, foul dialect, inert and lude talk, and
outrage and indulging in wrong activities etc. Fasting likewise
enables individuals to create solid self-discipline as they beat
the basic wants of their body and the harming demonstrations
Journey (Hajj):

The sacred journey to Makkah is a demonstration that each


Muslim must perform the obligatory pilgrimage Hajj once in
their life if they are physically and monetarily capable. It
symbolizes the solidarity of mankind as Muslims from
different race and nationality gather together to worship only
ALLAH Almighty, following the tradition of Hazrat Ibraheem
(AS).
