PETER EISENMAN

PETER EISENMAN

The architect is humanistic, someone, versed in all the arts and science, not limited to the nitty gritty of building ,
at the same time he enjoys seeing his conceptual Design realized". Peter eisenman

from Dictionary of architects

Peter Eisenman was an American architect born in Newark new jersey USA 11 August 1932.

He studied architecture in different universities his bachelor of architectural degree from Cornell University in
1955, masters of Architectural degree from Colombia university ma and PhD.

In the middle of his studies Eisenman worked in different Architectural offices like 1957 up to 58 for Percival good
man in new yourk and in 1959 for architectural collaborative (TAC) Cambridge massachuset.

He also teaches in Cambridge University, Princeton university, Harvard University and yalle university.

peter eisanman an author of many books like house and house carols, known by his published several essays and
articles of his architectural theories in international magazines and journal

for example

-"Note on conceptual architecture towards a definition”. AW 2001 is a cofounder of case (conference of

architecture For the study of environment in 1964),
From1967-82 as a founder and director for Architecture and urban studies institution in New York.

From 1973-82 founding director of the institute and editor of the institution of oppositions and leader of a loosely
knit group of new York architect, called the New York five having a members of five (John Hejduk, Michael
Graveb, Charles Gwathmey, Richard Meier and peter Eisenman)

This five architects known by following the deconstructivism principle.

Lecorbusler, Pseud Forcharles Eduard Jeanmert, Jiuseppe Terragn (1904-02, Andrea palladino and French
phillasopher jacolves perrlola influenced peter eisanman. After this much teaching and essay writing experience in
1982 peter eisenman opened his own office and atarts architectural design practices.
DESIGN PRINCIPLES

DESIGN PRINCIPIES

“Architecture had entered a post humanist” era I which “ place” and “ tradition and less meaning and in which the
fracturing of the city and the landscape could be seen as part of an inevitable ‘atopla’-a modern place lessons-
into which fragments of architectural oils course could be inserted virtually as mannerist games” peter Eisenman”

from modern architecture .

Peter Eisenman starts ka designing he come up with same idea and place the idea into same proportional
calculation.

After passing through different and consecutive evolution process reaches to a new representation and beginning
with elementary solids or simple forms following the deconstruction principle than architectural spaces take place.
The proportional calculation that Peter Eisenman use is the diagram of Nikos Salingaros of mathematically
generated factual organization which bays” the design is not a human invention but represents a mathematical
principle”
The principles that are derived from the diagram are:-

Hierarchy “ the triangles have different degree of importance.

Contrasting in scale “ the triangles have different size.

Grouping: triangles are gathered into bus-groups which organize the large no units into fewer number

motif”

Proportion

Modularity

symmetry
In addition to the above principle Peter Eisenman use deconstructivism principle for organization
Deconstructionist is a development of post modernism architecture that began in late 1980 which centralist to the
Architecture of modernism such as:-

” form follows function” purity of from “ truth of material “.

This Deconstructivism expressed by ideas of fragmentation, non- linear processes of Design using non rectilinear
shapes which used to distort and dislocate some elements of architecture like structure and envelop. Then their
look at last is stimulating unpredictability and controlled chaos.

Peter Eisenman’s Waxner center is one of the manifestations of this style.

He was concerned with main subject of deconstructivism ” metaphysics of presence” this deals with presence and
absence & solid land both built and un built .

The formed shape may not have an architectural history to tell but the elements which are created do have a
strong relation to each other that makes the design interesting. In forming of this composition ho follows the
function to fit the form unlike that of the modern.

Transparency and planarity are the character of his design

House II (Falk House )

House II (Falk House )

“ I don’t design houses with the nuclear family idea because I don’t believe init be a concept. I was
interested in doing architecture not on solving the falks’s privacy problem”

 House II is build on a dairy farm land in Hardwick. the house a is a flat roof with numerous skylights and directly
under the skylight were a series to openings through the upper floor the smaller 27 inches square and the
largest 27 inches by 12 feet. The houses do have little walls for example in the middle of bedrooms there is only
half wall and so on.

 The clients ms and mr falk were not happier about the house because of the loss of privacy.
ARNOFF CENTER
Aronoff center

“ that is what I have always been trying to do-to display the subject- to oblique the subject to reconceptualize
architecture. we have actually to change the relationship of the body of architecture the body has to send
message to the brain saying ‘wait a minute, something that I need to adjust to, something that I need to
understand is happening to me!”

Peter Eisenman bays when he start designing he loss any organizing order.

To walk around the site for many times but again he loss any orienting or central area because of this he reaches
to the decision that he is going to compose the curve to the land form and the chevron form of the existing
building .

In this design the curved shape of the land is more expressed in the land escape work of the site.

WEXNER CENTE FOR THE ARTS

WEXNER CENTE FOR THE ARTS

Found at the ohlo state university in Columbus ohlo. is one of peter Eisenman great buildings that get many
media coverage and received national honor of award from the American institute of architects.

This building completed in 1986 taken as a monument for deconstruction and decomposition.

This brick tower is good expression of deconstruction style and reflect the history of the site having the brick
tower and metal grids that represent.

Scaffolding showing the sense of in completeness.

The grid represents the street grid of the campus which ties the waxner center and the campus to the city. AND
served as a pedestrian passage way and a representation of integration between past and present and future,
town and campus

The building complex accommodates film and video theater, a performance space a film and video post
production studio a book store cafe and gallery
