• Example
for Sp.gr.of mud = 1.20 gm/cc & String wt. in air = 70 tons.

Buoyancy Factor = 1- ( 1.20 /7.85 )


= 0.847
String wt. in mud = 70 x 0.847
= 59.29 tons

• Formation pressure basically is the pressure exerted by fluid in the pore spaces of
the rocks.
• As the rock layers are deposited one upon another , formation water is squeezed
out of the pores due to overburden.
• Overburden Pressure = Rock matrix stress + Pore Pressure.
• Normal Overburden pressure gradient = 1 psi /feet
