Students English Language Learning

Background of the study
Television as one of a prove of modern technology has given many
advantages for human life. By watching television people can know
everything about news, entertainments, etc in far away of place. And
television has become an effective medium to transfer knowledge,
information, and culture, habit even life style

Technology has pushed educational skills to new levels ("The Classroom


Evolution of Technology," 2015). Technology can relate to teaching in a
complementary way.. The invention of new technologies makes learners
understand the course content and achieve a good result in the classroom.
So long as many new technologies have been invented in history, they had
a message for learners to discover appropriate methods to incorporate
these new technologies into the class (Groff, Haas, Klopfer &Osterweil,
2009).
Problem Statement

• Difficulty faced by the Chinese independent school students in

order to read, write and speak in English due to lack of

exposure

• Another contributing element to this issue is interference of

their first language


Research purpose
• The purpose of the research is to investigate the impact of
watching television and movies as a pedagogical tool on learning
English Language by higher secondary students of Chinese
independent high schools and the academic achievements of
the students in English.
• Research objective:

To identify to what extend does television and movies impact


students language acquisition

To determine students’ achievement in language after


implementing television and movie

• Research question:

To what extent watching television and movies are beneficial for


students to learn English language at school?

To what extent do students prefer movies as a pedagogical tool


for learning English in English language class?
