Introduction
 Radio Frequency Identification (RFID)
is an automatic identification
method, relying on storing and
remotely retrieving data using
devices called RFID tags or
transponders.
It can be attached to or incorporated
into a product, animal, or person for
the purpose of identification using
radio waves.

12/08/21
RFID tags contain silicon chips and 4
antennas.
HISTORY OF RFIDs
 In 1945 Léon Theremin invented a
tool for the Soviet government
which retransmitted incident radio
waves with audio information

 A similar technology, the IFF

transponder, was invented by the
British in 1939 and was routinely
used by the allies in World War II
to identify airplanes as friend or
foe.

HINDERING FACTORS:

 COST
RFID tags are always costlier than
barcodes and other identification
mechanisms
 PRIVACY

RFIDs may be used for spying

12/08/21 14
CONTROVERSY

The use of RFID technology

has engendered
considerable controversy
and even product boycotts
by consumer privacy

12/08/21 15
CONCLUSION
 As with most technologies RFID is
neither good nor evil; it is simply a
tool that can be used intelligently for
the business, consumer and Public
benefit.
 In near future RFIDs are going to
replace all traditional systems of
identifications viz barcodes etc.
 Developments in RFID technology
continue to yield larger memory
capabilities,larger reading ranges and
12/08/21 faster processing. 16
