South Boston Inner Harbor Studio Problem
Harvard Career Discovery, 2008
This studio problem dealt with the complexities of master planning in mixed use design, as
the design space occupied over 1.5 million square feet of land adjacent to the South Boston
Inner Harbor. After analyzing demographic and geographic indicators, I sought to create an
accessible urban green space that would both counter and celebrate the built environment
that dominates Downtown Boston and the adjacent Fort Point Neighborhood. My design
aims to create a sense of isolation and distance from Downtown, while simultaneously
activating views to the unique features of the area: the harbor, the ICA, Fort Point’s streets,
and the neighborhoods of Downtown, the North End, East Boston, and Chelsea.
Programming includes open field space, protected areas of sanctuary, a community garden,
a plaza, and the ubiquitous harbor walk.

Design Studio Model Work
Harvard Career Discovery, 2008
In addition to the aforeshown model, the following pieces are presented to demonstrate
my technical and creative aptitude in model making. The first model was part of my
design process for a 50 square foot “free design” studio problem. I created a space that
would subtly, but literally, draw an individual into the trees and away from the ground. The
second slide is a section of a larger model, produced for a design problem that required
the creation of 600’ x 30’ harbor walk along the Fort Point Channel in Boston. With the
ocean as my inspiration, I created an overhanging boardwalk, intensifying interactions
between the sea and the individual, and staggered the heights and widths of the
boardwalk to evoke the changing currents and tides of the Boston Harbor.

Graphic Design and Content Production for Public Responsibility in
Medicine and Research (PRIM&R)
2007-2008
While employed with PRIM&R, I took responsibility for the design and production of
numerous projects, two of which are displayed on the following slides. The first two
images represent the front and back covers for PRIM&R’s 2008 Annual IACUC (Animal
Research) Conference guide. I designed the images with a color palette inspired by
spring, and utilized the ampersand in a planned rebranding of PRIM&R’s graphic identity.
The second set of slides were taken from PRIM&R’s research ethics periodical, RED—a
publication for which I was lead designer, content author, editor, and producer. The
design is meant to be clean and direct, evoking the scholarly journals from which content
was derived.
