• 20 VSU officers have been trained in GENDER Studies at

• 20 VSU have been trained in Human Rights
• 20 VSU officers were trained in counseling from 2008-2009 at
Chainama College of Health Sciences
• 20 VSU officers are undergoing counseling training at
Chainama College of Health Sciences
• Police adopting a 30% of women representation in the police
service with a 50% + recruitment done this year in February .

• In explaining the SADC protocol the police has
implemented the:
• 30% involvement of women and we are rallying

missions where GBV is at its peak

 LESSONS LEARNED

• There is still a lot of education needed to be

done as some quarters of society still feel it’s
a Unit which favors women (negative thinking)

• The community has perceived the police as a

cage but VSU is there to help lift a burden in a
survivor
• We have learnt to have a spot for everyone
walking into VSU because it is not always
about ‘arresting’
