Introduction

• DCM (Deep Cement Mixing), is new kind of

LT G

reinforced.
• SDCM (Stiffened Deep Cement Mixing) pile
is introducted to mitigate the problems due to
the low flexural resistance, quality control
problem and unexpected failure of DCM pile.

Problems
• Although DCM pile has many advantage
LT G

with various aplications, failure caused by

pile failure and soil failure can occure
especially when subjected to the lateral load.

STIFFEBED DEEP CEMENT MIXED (SDCM) PILE
• composite structure of concrete pile and DCM pile combaining the
advantages of both components.
LT G

• A pre-stressed concrete stiffer core is installed by inserting into the center

of a DCM pile immediately after the construction of wet mixing DCM pile.
• The two parts of the composite pile work togheter by suporting and
transferring the vertical load effectifely to the DCM pile and to the
suronding soil.

Schematic of SDCM
• DCM pile is used as the socket pile in order
LT G

to carry and transfer the load from concretre

ADCM core pile to the suronding soil. In this study
Acore the DCM pile was constructed by wet
Concrete
mixing with 0,60 M diameter and 7,00 M
Core Pile Lenght.
DCM pile
L core
• Concrete Core Pile need some material to
enhance its stiffness, the prestressed concrete
pile is more suitable bicause cheaper and
L DCM

easier to manufacture. Thus, the prestressed

Soft Clay concrete pile was proposed to bear
Layer
compression in compression pile load test
and resist lateral load when subjected to the
horizontal load in SDCM pile.

FULL SCALE AXIAL AND LATERAL PILE LOAD TEST

• The DCM pile was constructed by jet grouting method empoying a jet
LT G

pressure of 22 kpa and cement of 150kg/m3 of soil.

• The values of unconfined compressive strength of DCM obtained from fild
speciment ranged from 500kpa to 1500kpa with averange value of 900kpa
while the modulus of elasticity ranged from 50000kpa to 150000kpa with
averange value of 90000 kpa indicating the empirical relation E50=100qu.
• The full scale pile load test pile consist of 16SDCM and 4DCM pile. For
the DCM pile 0,60m in diameter and 7,00m in length was used and SDCM
with length ranging from 4 and 6 M was utilized.

Axial Compression Pile Load Test
• Conducted on both the DCM and SDCM piles.
LT G

• The concrete core pile consiosted of 0,18 m and 0,22m square pile.
• The DCM pile has 0,60m diameter.
• The load was applied increasing at 10kN interfal until failure.
• The bearing capacities of the 0,18m2 core pile with 4m and 6m were 256kN
and 300kN. And for the 0,22m2 core pile with 4m and 6m were 275 kN
and 315kN.
• The bearing capacity of DCm pile found to be 200 and 140kN.

The result from full scale pile load tests indicated that both the length and
section area of concrete core pile increased the bearing capacities and
reduced settlement of SDCM piles.

Lateral pile load Test
• The 0,18m and 0,22m square core piles with 0,60m DCm diameter were
LT G

used.
• The horizontal load was applied depth at -0,30m at the top of pile with
increasing lateral load until pile failure.
• Maximum lateral load of the 0,18m2 core pile with leght of 3,50m and
5,50m were 33kN and 34,5kN. And for the 0,22m2 core pile with leght of
3,50m and 5,50m were 44,5kN and 45,5kN.

The risult indicated that the lenght of concrete core pile did not affect much
the lateral capacities. Both the lenght and section area were significant
reduction in pile displacement when concrete core pile lenght was
increased from 3,50m to 5,50m. Finallly the lateral bearing capacities of
SDCM pile was found to be higher than the DCM pile.

PROCEDURE OF SIMULATION OF AXIAL AND LATERAL PILE LOAD
TEST

Both axial copression pile load test and lateral pile load test were simulated by
LT G

PLAXIS 3D Foundation Software.

•TEST RESULT
- Axial compression pile simulation
 DCM pile: CDCM obtained from 3D finite element simulation were 300kPa and
200kPa, EDCM were obtained as 60.000kPa (DCM C-1) and 40.000kPa (DCM C-
2).
 SCDM pile: corresponding : CDCM and EDCM were 200kPa and 30.000kPa.
- Lateral Load Simulation
 CDCM and EDCM were similar to the axial compresion pile.
 DCM pile: TDCM 50kPa (DCM C-1) and 25kPa (DCM C-2). Coressponding
value for Tcore and TDCM were 5000kPa and 50kPa.
 SDCM pile: maximum mment for the long pile, 0.18m=14kn-m, 0.22m =
20kN-m, 0.26m=32kN-m, 0.30m=47kN-m

200kPa.
• Modulus in the DCM pile, EDCM were 60.000kPa (DCM C-1) and 40.000kPa
(DCM C-2).
• for the SDCM, CDCM and EDCM were 200kPa and 30000kPa.
• The ultimate bearing capacity of SDCM pile increased linearly with the
