Intelligence data can be quickly imported from multiple sources and displayed in ArcGIS. In the field, data in the form of pictures, video clips, and sound recordings can be linked on digital maps for subsequent intelligence analysis.

APPLICATIONS AND BENEFITS

Data Import: Import wizard rapidly and flexibly ingests non spatial data from many different data sources (spreadsheets, text, databases) and in many different coordinate formats into ArcGIS Desktop. Data Editing: Edit features with a streamlined, interactive interface to the ArcGIS Desktop. Data Export: Export wizard generates powerful products in standard formats (HTML, PowerPoint slide shows, Excel spreadsheets) from ArcGIS data Field Data Collection/Visualization: Plot routes and collected field data as layers in ArcGIS Desktop

 Benefits include:
Route Reconnaissance. Site Surveys. Prepare Convoy Plans. Intelligence Plans and Collections. DoD Crime Scene Investigation. Counter terrorism. Emergency Response.

GIS IN AIR FORCE

GEO Base System

The GIS Support primary mission is to develop enhance real-time situational awareness, decision making, and command and control for day-to-day and crisis response operations. GeoBase gives you a scalable, feature rich, easy-to-use engine that delivers core geospatial functionality in a software application. It takes the complexity out of geospatial software. Its application includes Field Service Transportation and Logistics Dispatching Route Optimization Or any application where location matters Tracking.

Benefits of Geo base

The flying community can use Geo Base as a backdrop for approach and departure corridors on airfields. Similarly, the Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) information and commercial air traffic corridors could be added to the system to give a three-dimensional understanding of air traffic in a region.

GIS IN ARMY

Digital Topographic Support System

DTSS provides updated geospatial data and analysis that can be merged with real-time military intelligence to provide mission planners, battlefield commanders, and war fighters with unprecedented situational awareness. Current DTSS systems use ESRI ArcGIS, Leica ERDAS IMAGINE, and Skyline Terra Explorer integrated with the Army Battle Command System (ABCS) software suite.

Benefits
The DTSS systems provide terrain analysis and visualization capabilities along with terrain database development. DTSS enables mission planners to compile information from a multitude of sources. This information is used to create or enhance digital data that provides the common map background for all Army Battle Command Systems.

Situation Geographic Information System (SGIS)

Developed within the AQUA project at the Swedish National Defense College (SNDC). The SIGIS command and control support system is a Web based client & server approach to handling presentation and management of the operational and tactical picture

Capabilities and Benefits

The user client presents an operational & tactical situation picture adapted to different military arenas (e.g., joint, ground, air, and sea).

Through the intuitive interface, the Identification tool can be used to learn more about an objects attributes (for example, tactical graphic objects with attributes such as speed, direction, sensor and weapon ranges).

Enables realistic scenarios and easy to learn and handle.

Supports the different functions in the generic commandand control cycle model (planning, execution, and assessment)

Stryker Brigade Combat Team System

The Stryker BCT system consists of a Web-based front end ,a spatial database, and a Web-based viewer with query and print capabilities. The Stryker BCT system directly supports the global war on terrorism through the development of an enterprise framework of geospatial intelligence technology for the Army. Benefits: It simplifies the workflow by allowing the soldier collecting the data to input directly to the system. It uses default values and subtypes to prevent misclassification of features and domain lists to improve data quality Web-based data entry form for the direct entry of field data

Military Terrain Analysis II, TERRA II

TERRA II is a second-generation tool for terrain analysis designed for and used by the Finnish Army. TERRA I, developed in 1999, was the first GIS-based terrain analysis used by the Finnish Army.

The TERRA II requirements included real-time analysis, vehicle parameter control, vector-to-raster capability, and data distribution.

TERRA II functionality works on ArcGIS 9.x Desktop with the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension.

Terrain models include data layers such as soil trafficability, soil carrying capacity, slope, timber volumes, frost carrying capacity (especially on swamps), ice, and snow.

BENEFITS AND CAPABILITIES

Raster and vector data combinations overlaid on raster layers. Evaluate reliability of parameters for geospatial and terrain analysis. Real-time analyses (seasonal data collected by military personnel). Data distribution for different roles. Tactical decision aids for artillery, anti aircraft defense, and other defense applications.

Combined Artillery System

Combined Artillery system is a tool to support the artillery regiment and artillery battalion staffs within the framework of tactical fire control using the command, control, communications, and intelligence system. It enables the user to quickly and effectively engage a sequence of targets with optimum allocation to the available munitions.

GIS FOR NAVY AND MARINES

Regional Planning

GIS for Navigation Planning

A GIS was developed to centralize most relevant information and help navigators be aware of what is available for specific areas of interest. Layers were stored in a personal geo database in six thematic datasets: environment, base map, administrative limits, technical limits, chart coverage, and navigation information. More than 50 layers of thematic data were collected including several chart folios, baseline, underwater cables, magnetic declination, search and rescue areas, main seaports, main ocean routes, sea climatology, major ocean currents, bathymetry, political boundaries, and satellite images of main ports.

GIS IN INTELLIGENCE

Filtering GIS Displays with Semantic Lenses

An alternative to toggling layers on and off is semantic lensing, which is a localized, detail-on demand filtering strategy. Completion times of geospatial analyses are significantly faster when using lenses and workloads are significantly lower. Semantic lenses are used by GIS analysts to understand relationships between multiple layers of data simultaneously. Types of semantic lenses: A filter lens. A label lens A query lens
