OUT PUT DEVICES

Any piece of computer hardware equipment used to communicate the results of data processing carried out by a computer to the outside world.

Examples
Monitors
Printers Plotters

Speech synthesizer
Projectors Head phones

PRINTERS

SMALL PRINTER

A PRINTER WITH SCANNING FACILITY

Inkjet Printer
User friendly computer printers.
Works by propelling variably-sized droplets of liquid

or molten material (ink) onto almost any medium. Most common type of printer for the general consumers.

Laser Printer
uses LED-technology to obtain small particles of toner

from a cartridge onto paper. Produce high quality text and graphics on plain paper.

Dot-matrix Printer
like typewriting.
Create characters by striking pins against an ink

ribbon. Combinations of dots form characters .

Thermal Printer
inexpensive printer that works by pushing heated pins

against heat-sensitive paper. Used in calculators and fax machines. More economical since their only consumable is the paper itself.

Speech synthesizer
artificial production of human speech.
It can be implemented in software or hardware. A text-to-speech (TTS) system converts normal

language text into speech. Synthesized speech can be created by concatenating pieces of recorded speech that are stored in a database.

Synthesizer technologies
The two primary technologies for generating synthetic

speech waveforms concatenative synthesis. formant synthesis.

Concatenative synthesis
based on the concatenation of segments of recorded

speech. produces the most natural-sounding synthesized speech.

Formant synthesis
Does not use human speech samples at runtime.
The synthesized speech output is created using

additive synthesis and an acoustic model (physical modelling synthesis . Parameters such as fundamental frequency, voicing and noise levels are varied over time to create a waveform of artificial speech.

Projector
A type of video projector for displaying video, images

or computer data on a screen or other flat surface. To display images, projectors typically send light from a metal halide lamp through a prism or series of dichroic that separates light to three poly silicon panels one each for the red, green, and blue components of the video signal.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF PROJECTORS

CRT (cathode ray tube) projectors are the original and,

arguably, still offer the best picture. CRT projectors use three large tubes to project the image TV. Even entry-level models are expensive . LCD (liquid crystal display) projectors are normally small and light. They work on similar principles to the LCD computer screen. DLP (digital light projection) projectors are the up-andcoming technology. DLP projectors use thousands of tiny mirrors on a small chip, along with a spinning color wheel, to project the image.

Different types of projectors

Plotter
A computer printing device for printing vector

graphics . In the past, plotters were widely used in applications such as computer aided design. Plotters offered the fastest way to efficiently produce very large drawings or color high-resolution vectorbased artwork when computer memory was very expensive and processor power was very limited, and other types of printers had limited graphic output capabilities.

Drum Plotter
A pen plotter.
Wraps the paper around a drum with a pin feed

attachment. The drum then rotates the paper as pens move across it and draw the image. First output device used to print graphics and large engineering drawings. Two types of drum plotters, external and internal.

Flat-Bed Plotter
A mechanical drafting device .
The paper remains stationary on a flat surface while a pen

moves across it horizontally and vertically. This plotter may use several different colors of pens to create the graphics. The size of the graphic is limited to the size of the flat-bed plotter's surface.

Inkjet Plotter
Creates an image by spraying small droplets of ink onto

a piece of paper. A popular choice for advertising agencies and graphic designers. banners and billboards and large signs often seen on roadsides. Available in thermal or piezoelectric models. Produce better quality graphics than other types of plotters.
