Plantrooms (HTM 2023)

• Ventilation Plantrooms (7.2)

– Situated on the roof-top level with an area of 272 m2 (17m x 16m).
– Consists of 3 individual ventilation plant, which will accommodate
ventilations for 24 or 9-5 hospital accommodations and two 24 hour
operating theatre suite. (fig 38)
– With these separate plant, turn-down of any plant will not be affected
other departments.
– The plantroom will also accommodate the mechanical and electrical
control panel.
– The plantroom is designed to have a line of walkway from end to end to
give ease of general access and plant maintenance. This will also allow
any lifting or removal of heavy plant equipments.
Plantrooms (HTM 2023)
• Calorifier plantrooms (7.24)
– Calorifier room is located between the load centres (water storage,
central heating) and the source of heat supply (boiler) on the roof-top
level, which has direct access to the outer air. (need to consider any
heat transfer to adjacent rooms)
– Dimensions of the room: 8mx8m with 3m height (vertical calorifier). It
will provide sufficient space to allow lifting or installation of the calorifier.
– The base of the calorifier is constructed to bear the weight of the
calorifier and all of its content. Its also designed so that it can minimise
the vibration from the pump and the motor from the calorifier.
– The room is designed to remove excess heat with natural ventilation.
Plantrooms (HTM 2023)
• Water storage (7.3)
– The water storage is positioned on the roof-top level. The dimension: 10
x 10 m with ? height (clearance 1 m above, 450 m below and 800 m
sides of water tanks – space for pressurisation and circulating pump)
– Standard flanged pressed plates will be used as the base. (need to
design if overflow happens)
– Will have natural ventilation, general lighting and also heating to prevent
from frost.
Plantrooms (HTM 2023)
• High voltage sub-stations (7.12)
– Situated in basement level (services area) to allow easy access for
transformer changing, fire appliances and other maintenance purposes.
– This area is a restricted area where only qualify personnel are allowed
to have access. ‘Crash Bar’ doors are used for emergency exit and
located in suitable places to prevent self-entrapment.
– Layout (7.13):
• Adequate spaces and wall clearances for cable trench to allow
pulling and terminating cable as well as for servicing switchgear.
• Headroom of 1.6m above the transformer tank is chosen to ensure
natural cooling of the sub-station and also to create space for
lightings and fire protection equipment.
Plantrooms (HTM 2023)
• Headroom of 1.6m and 0.9 above the transformer tank and above
switchboard respectively is chosen to ensure natural cooling of the
sub-station and also to create space for lightings and fire protection
equipment. A work space is also provided at the end of the
switchboard to allow maintenance work on circuit breaker.
• In the event of faulty transformer, the area situated allows the
transformer to be moved into open air using crane and also for
installation. A fixed ring anchor is also available for this purpose.
• The sub-stations is designed so that no cable entries or ducts will
interferes during the installation or removal of the transformer.
Plantrooms (HTM 2023)
• Electrical Ducts(7.18)

• All electrical ducts and cable trenches paths are constructed to avoid
along any water surface or any substance or area that is dangerous and
hazardous. Where there is an unavoidable to do this, such as in open
air or basement, the cables are sealed with weather sealant.
• All cable trenches and ducts are fire-resistance accordance with
Firecode

• Low voltage switchrooms (7.20)

• Switchrooms are located close to the load centre and it is arranged to

allow convenient entry to rising ducts, crawlways etc.
Plantrooms (HTM 2023)
• The layout of the switchrooms are designed to have adequate space for
servicing purposes, that is 0.8m from the rear and 1m from the front
plus spaces recommended by manufacturer for withdrawing the
switchgear.

• Electrical Switchgear(7.22)

• Electrical switchgear are situated within the roof level ventilation

plantrooms. It gives the optimum route for main electrical cables
distribution. The position gives a good access for maintenance and
repair without disturbing staff and patients.
