move ?

of water out of the well ?
• What do you do to open or close the
door ?

WHAT IS FORCE

Force is the push

or the pull that
makes a move
body .
UNITS OF FORCE

The C.G.S. unit of force is Dyne and

the S.I. unit is Newton.
1N=105 dyne.
Force has both
magnitude as well
as direction, so it is
a vector quantity.

F= m.a.
Force=mass.
acceleration.
So force is the
product of mass and
acceleration.
EFFECTS OF FORCE
1. Force can make a stationary body
move.

e.g. By kicking a football

we can make it move.
EFFECTS OF FORCE
• Force can change the speed of an object
e.g.

(1) By paddling a cycle • If a person pulls back a

we can increase its man driving a bicycle his
speed. speed is decreased.
EFFECTS OF FORCE
(C) Force can change the direction of a
moving object .

e.g. When a batsman hits

a ball with his bat , the
direction of ball is
changed.
EFFECTS OF FORCE
(D) Force can change the shape of an object

e.g.

(1) By stretching a rubber (2) When a ball of kneaded flour

band its shape is changed . is pressed, it becomes
flattened .
TYPES OF FORCE

1. Muscular force
2. Gravitational force
3. Frictional force
4. Magnetic force
5. Electrostatic force
1. Muscular force :- It is the force applied by
the muscles of the body.

e.g . A man pulling a heavy

load.
Gravitational force :- It is the force by which
every object in the universe attracts the another
object towards itself.

1. .e.g.earth revolves around

the sun.
3. Frictional force:-It is the force which is produced when
two surfaces are rubbed against each other

e.g. A person can walk

only due to friction
between his feet and
earth.
4. Magnetic force:-It is the force applied by a
magnet

e.g. crane picking up

heavy iron
5. Electrostatic force:-It is the force produced
due to charges

e.g. small pieces of paper

are attracted towards the
comb after it has been
rubbed with dry hair
