Section 5(a)(1) of the OSH Act, often referred to as the General Duty Clause, requires employers to "furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees". Section 5(a)(2) requires employers to "comply with occupational safety and health standards promulgated under this Act".

Section 5(b) Each employee shall comply with occupational safety and health standards and all rules, regulations, and orders issued pursuant to this Act which are applicable to his own actions and conduct.

Consult the MSDS to see what type of glove is right for your task Inspect gloves before each use to ensure they are not torn, punctured, or made ineffective in any way Reuse of chemical-resistant gloves should be evaluated carefully, taking into consideration the absorptive qualities of the gloves

Many occupational eye injuries occur because workers are not wearing any eye protection, while others result from wearing improper or poorly fitting eye protection

Ensure your goggles fit comfortably, they should not be too snug and they should not be loose enough that they have the potential to slip off Goggles should be tight-fitting and completely cover the eyes, eye sockets and the facial area immediately surrounding the eyes and provide protection from impact, dust and splashes If you wear corrective lenses: goggles must fit over glasses or have corrective lenses Keep eye protection clean and in good condition

Check the fit before each wearing Clean regularly and thoroughly with soap and water or sanitizer Replace if lenses are pitted or scratched

You can NOT wear contact lenses when working around hazardous chemicals. (They might trap the chemicals next to your eyes.)

Protect against inhaling dangerous substances Provide a separate air supply in a hazardous situation Prevents: lung damage, respiratory diseases, cancer, poisoning, or asphyxiation

Select and use respirators according to specific hazards Consult the MSDS if you are unsure which type of respirator is needed

A properly fitting respirator:

Is snug but not too tight Doesnt slip Doesnt pinch or hurt Allows head movement and speech

Make sure the respirator fits correctly. (Check it every time you wear it!) Make sure there is no damage or deterioration. (Check it every time you wear it!) You must have no facial hair or glasses that might prevent a proper fit. Clean the respirator immediately after use. Store the respirator in the proper place, away from light, heat, dust, or anything that might damage it.

Dont get dehydrated. when wearing PPE Take extra precautionsDrink water before starting a

job. Tell your supervisor if you begin to feel Dont overexert yourself overheated. Drink more water when you finish. Beware of heat sickness. Heavy clothing and equipment can trap heat. Your body temperature and heart rate can rise, and it can be difficult to cool down.
