EC105.70 1
Objective

On completion of this period, you will be able to know

• Use of MCB.

• List different types of connectors.

• Necessity of connectors.

EC105.70 2
Recap
1. What is fuse ?

• A short piece of wire or thin strip used as over current

protective device.

6. How do you connected a fuse in a circuit or equipment?

• Is always connected in series with the circuit or

equipment to be protected.

EC105.70 3
3. Identify this picture

Ans. Glass cartridge fuse

EC105.70 4
Miniature Circuit Breakers

EC105.70 5
What is MCB?

• MCB stands for miniature circuit breaker.

• Circuit protecting device.

• Acts as switch and fuse.

Use of MCB

• Acts against over load and short circuit trips.

• Can be set manually.

EC105.70 6
MCB working

• Contains thermal element in the form of spring.

• Spring expands with heat and trips. Thus opens the circuit.

• Thermal heated element cools down.

EC105.70 7
MCB working.,

• Short circuit problem rectified.

• Circuit breaker can be reset manually.

• Large circuit breakers use coils to detect excessive

current to open a circuit.

EC105.70 8
Necessity of Connectors

• When complex electronic circuits are assembled , it will

not be possible to have all the circuit functions in one
circuit board or block.

• Most of the equipment requires interconnection of one

part with the others.

• For interconnection of one part with another part or form

one PCB to another PCB in an equipment, we use
connectors.

EC105.70 9
Types of Connectors

Connector
Audio
R.F
U.H.F
B.N.C
P.C.B

EC105.70 10
Connectors

• Push button type

• For temporary connection

to test circuits

EC105.70 11
Cable T.V connectors

• Co-axial cable connector

• Used in connecting the

Connector cable wire to T.V.

• Plugs are male type

that mates with a
female socket.

Cable
EC105.70 12
PHONE PLUG

• Used in ear phones

and telephone switch
boards.

• Provide facility for

interconnecting audio
equipment.

EC105.70 13
Multiple pin connector plug

• Multi connector wires

are placed in a flat
plastic ribbon to save
space.

• Plugs are female type

that mates with a male
socket.

EC105.70 14
RCA PLUG

• Useful for cable

connections.

• Audio cables connection

EC105.70 15
TERMINAL STRIP

• Used to provide
multiple soldered
connections.

• Sometimes called
terminal lugs.

EC105.70 16
Double banana pin plug

• Has a spring type sides

that make tight
connections.

EC105.70 17
Alligator clips

• Used for temporary

connections as in case
of multimeter.

EC105.70 18
Spade lug

• Used for screw type

connectors.

EC105.70 19
Summary

In this class we have discussed

• Use of MCB.

• Different types of connectors.

• Necessity of connectors.
