R-C coupled amplifier

EC302.49 TO 50 4
Principle of R-C coupling

• In this scheme , the signal developed across the

collector resistor RC , of the first is coupled to the base

of the second stage through the capacitor Cc.

• The coupling capacitor blocks the dc voltage of the first

stage from reaching the base of the second stage.

EC302.49 TO 50 5
Principle of R-C coupling

• In this way , the dc biasing of the next stage is not

interfered with.

• Some loss of the signal always occurs due to the drop

across the coupling capacitor.

• This loss is more when the frequency of the input signal

Is low.
EC302.49 TO 50 6
Circuit Operation

• The input signal Vin is amplified by Q1 sets phase in

reverse.

• The amplified out put of Q1 appears across Rc1

• 1st stages is coupled to the 2nd stage by coupling

capacitor C c

EC302.49 TO 50 7
Circuit Operation

• Thus the signal at the base of Q1 is amplified by Q2 and

its phase is further reversed.

• The a.c output of Q2 appears across Rc2.

• The output across Rc2 is coupled by Cc to the load.

EC302.49 TO 50 8
Circuit Operation

• The out put signal V out is the twice amplified replica of

the input signal V in

• Cin used to couple input signal to the base of the Q1

• The resistances R1, R2 & RE form the biasing and

stabilization network.

EC302.49 TO 50 9
Circuit Operation

• The emitter bypass capacitor CE offers low reactance

path to the signal.

EC302.49 TO 50 10
Advantages

• It has excellent frequency response.

• It has lower cost since it employs resistors and

capacitors which are cheap.

• The circuit is very compact.

EC302.49 TO 50 11
Disadvantages

• Low voltage and power gain.

• They have the tendency to become noisy with age,

moist climates.

• Poor Impedance matching .

EC302.49 TO 50 12
