Life in Romania

Romanian families usually comprise 1 or 2 children. Families with three or more children are rare.

The distance from Targu Mures to the Black Sea is of about 8-10 hours by car.

The distance from Targu Mures to the capital, Bucharest, is of about 5-6 hours by car.

During the summer holidays, most families go to the Black Sea. Lately, this habit has a bit changed since families with a higher income have discovered destinations such as Turkey, Croatia, Greece, Spain, Italy,...

Romanian families prefer to go to the mountains or to the countyside at weekends.

In Romania, both men and women have jobs and an average good income is that of 800 lei per month, which is about 250 $ per month. 1 $ is 3,23 lei (3 lei and 23 bani-the division of lei)

Traditional cars in Romania are called Dacia.


However, many people prefer other types such as: Renault Volkswagen, Audi, Ford, Mercedes, etc.

Romania enjoys four seasons, though there is a rapid transition from winter to summer. Spring is pleasant with cool mornings and nights and warm days. Summers are generally very warm to hot. Autumn is dry and cool, with fields and trees producing beautiful colours. Autumn is frequently longer, with dry warm weather from September to late November. Winters can be cold, with average maxima reaching no more than 2 C (36 F) and below 15 C (5 F) in the highest mountains.

Certain food recipes are made in direct connection with the season or the holidays. At Christmas, each family usually sacrifices a pig and prepare a large variety of dishes of its meat. At Easter, it is customary to sacrifice a lamb.
