The war of Patents

Introduction
Apple and Samsung are engaged in heated mobile device patent war consisting of many legal battles in several different countries Lets see the origin of the dispute and where it stands today

The Evolution of Smartphone's

Blackberry 2002 Started the push email and web capabilities Palm 2003 it featured GSM & CDMA models and had 32 MB of Ram

Legal Battle
The patent battle begun when Samsung launched its galaxy devices ( Apple believes that copying is so pervasive that they appear to be actual apple products)

Apple
Founded in April 1 1976 Apple is today the largest Publicly traded company in the world by market capitalization

Founded in 1938, Samsung produces around a

fifth of south Korea's total exports and its revenues are larger than many countries GDP

The War
Apple Hit Samsung With 16 claims against the slavish copying of the iphone and ipad design Samsung Strikes back saying apple infringed on 10 of its patents ( like 3g and wireless technology)

Apples victory
A German court issued a preliminary injunction preventing Samsung from selling the galaxy tab 10.1 in every European union nation Samsung is prohibited from selling its galaxy 10.1 in countries like Germany and Australia as well

sAmsungs revenge
Apple was ordered to reveal the iphone 4S source code and Samsung tried to ban sales of the device in Australia The fight is not over yet the judge overseeing the Australian case has postponed the trial Samsung's infringement allegations until march 2012

Partnership
Samsung is a huge semiconductor supplier for apple last year the company spent $8 billion dollar on parts through their deal Apple produced and sold 25 million iOS devices this year using samsung supllies

My Opinion
Both companies are dependent on each other If their relationship were to sour Apple would run into production problems and Samsung would suffer a huge financial hit this is why the companies are keeping their legal battles independent of their business dealings

Is there a winner ?
This legal battle may cause great damages to both companies, prejudice the consumers Apple has extensive patent portfolio but does it make sense to sue anyone from developing things such as a rectangular product shape with all four corners uniformly rounded
