Introduction
Subdivision is a process that splits up a lot (of land) belonging to a proprietor into two or more smaller lots under the same name (of the proprietor) (see Definition of subdivision)
It is a process that is necessary when the proprietor intends to: o Transfer portions of the land to other(s); or o Create a charge with respect to only a portion of the land.
It is also a requirement when the proprietor is carrying out land development project that involves certain portion of the land to be given to public authorities.

Introduction - Partition
Partition is used in relation to a land that is owned by two or more co-proprietors when one or more of them want(s) to split is up into their respective portions in separate titles under their own respective names (see Definition of Partition).
